Full Abstract: In response to Dr. Barysh's inquiry regarding the prevention of wear on brass instruments from acidity in the saliva and perspiration, Dr. Aronoff recommends first ruling out the need to have the aging instrument re-lacquered. Aronoff recommends prescription antacids if the patient indeed has an acid disorder and the use of lightweight cotton gloves to prevent wear from perspiration on the bell and valves.
